BIOGRAPHY

Acting is not pretending or lying. It's finding a side of yourself that's the character and ignoring your other sides. And there's a side of me that wonders what's wrong with being completely honest."-

Angelina Jolie

Angelina was born into acting; both her mother and her father were actors. Her mother is actress Mircheline Bertrand and her father, the Oscar-winning actor Jon Voight. Angelina made her first screen debut at the age of five, alongside her father in the comedy "Looking To Get Out" that had a similarity to the very young but obscure Angelina.

She begun studying acting at the age of 11 at the Lee Strasberg Theatre Institute. She performed in many productions but was also considering becoming a funeral director.
She says: " There's something about death that is comforting. The thought you could die tomorrow frees you to appreciate your life now".
At the age of 16, she worked as a professional model in London, New York and Los Angeles and appeared in music videos for the likes of Meatloaf, the Lemonheads, Lenny Kravitz and the Rolling Stones.

It was Jolie's love for acting and theatre that brought her back to New York. There, she studied films before moving back to Los Angeles where she studied and acted in a more formal environment at the Met Theatre Group amongst esteemed actors such as Ed Harris and Holly Hunter.
Jolie still wasn't content…. "I didn't know exactly what I wanted, but I knew I could know".

Jolie says it was her mother, who influences her so strongly, "She loved taking us to the theatre".

She also explained her rekindling of interest in theatrics. "I loved some kind of expression…I want[ed] so much to try to explain things to somebody…. I'm very good at trying to explore different emotions and listen to people and feel things. That is an actor I think".

Her first film was, to be put mildly, very mediocre; a supporting role as a human-machine hybrid in the 1993 "Cyborg II: Glass Shadows".

In 1995, her second film and first lead role was beneficial for her career not only because she got noticed in the film industry but also because she met the free-spirited British actor, Jonny Lee Miller.

A fleeting engagement later and the co-stars were married.

For the wedding, Jolie decided to make a statement and wear black rubber pants and a shirt that had inscribed across it, in blood, the groom's name.

Many films came after, such as the 1996 "Legs", an effective adaptation of the Joyce Oates novel "Foxfire", also in 1996 there was "Love in all there is" and in 1997 in "Playing God" alongside David Duchovny.

In 1997, her portrayal of Cornelia Wallace in the TV movie "George Wallace" won her a Best supporting Actress Golden Globe and an Emmy nomination.

Her career really set ablaze by a stunning performance as a drug-addicted AIDS-afflicted model Gia Cavangi in the 1998 movie "Gia".

The film earned her a second Golden Globe and another Emmy nomination.

In 1999 she co-starred with Billy Bob Thornton (her current husband) in the comedy "Pushing Tin" and in the same year she took on a main role in "The Bone Collector" alongside Denzel Washington.

Jolie played a seductive sociopath in "Girl Interrupted", pushing emotional, physical and mental boundaries to the limits. Perhaps not surprisingly Jolie's full-on performance in the popular supporting role was rewarded with a Golden Globe, not to mention a Best Supporting Actress Oscar.

At the age of 24, with three Golden Globes and an academy Award on the mantelpiece, Angelina Jolie Voight is a woman that the world will be seeing a lot more of in the future
